How has this organization not been classified as a monopoly and forced to break apart?
What would happen to the internet if such a thing happened?

I'm not sure....a utilitarian from Louisiana that is the 2nd largest communications company in the World, owning most of the main fiber and copper lines. That's why it pays it's employees what it does, so it stays together. I have a friend in the company that has a bunch of certifications and is the main person to go to...the company pays him $195K a year. He just spent $10K a piece on some aftermarket turbo's for his Subaru WRX that is his off time toy. It can blow the doors off a Corvette ZR1.
