Long time no talk

Post by Firelord »

Old OZ member checking in. How is everyone? Is the anni server still running and are people playing?

It's probably been 4 years since I've played, but I've been thinking about dusting the cobwebs off my PBeam...

Holy Crap! What's up old dog! Hope all is well.

Yeah, there are two Anni server's up. A main and a backup. They are still being played, but not as many or as much as in the past, but every now and then we get a nice group of over 10 playing that brings back the memories of old school playing days. A lot are now starting to play on LT servers, basically it's your spawn armor with default weapons, disk launcher, grenade launcher, and chain gun, and energy pack. No inventories, or turrets. Two teams, shoot it out for flag caps, first to cap 8 times wins. It's one of the more popular server's these days, but....I'm starting to see a lot of RPG mod servers, starting to pop-up now, and more starting to play them. I don't know anything about the RPG's, but do see statements that they are always in development, but might check them out one day.

Strange....lately I've been seeing some old school players start to show up, but at different times. Would be nice to just get everyone together one weekend for the old days of game play. Sad were not seeing a bunch of new people playing this as much. It's a free download online game with server's hosting different mod's. You'd think the younger generation would jump on it and pass it on to their friends to play. I remember paying $50 for Tribes on it's release, and then found out it was an online only game to play, and I didn't have internet, but my friend had Time Warner cable at the time and let me use his computer on the weekends to play. Later, I got DSL, which sucked. It wasn't fast enough or steady enough to handle the load Tribes was pulling off the connection, so I continued to use his computer and connection for game play. I still play a game called Unreal Tournament, released in 1999. You can now download it for free (link below) also and it's still being played online. It's not like Tribes, in which you can coast the air to get around, or have bases with inventory stations to change armor's and weapons, or have some server's in which you can use different vehicles, but it has a great choice of weapon selections to use in game, and still fun to play.

Hey Firelord yeah the server breakdown is probably something like this: 5 people on an average night (like every night), 10 people on a good night (maybe 5-10 of these in a month), and 15 people on a great night (like once a month).

The community is almost entirely moved away from the forums at this point. This forum and even Tribalwar.com's tribes sections are very dead. Everyone is instead over on the Discords these days. The main Starsiege: Tribes discord by far is the most active one, but you can find a lot of the old Annihilation players in the anni discord and they check in over time.
